A completely dead unit will fully charge in about 1-1 ˝ hours.
- After I turn the unit on, how long should it take for it to acquire satellites and be able to start to navigate?
It may take 1-2 minutes after you start the unit for it to “see” any satellites and therefore begin to navigate. This is especially true if the unit has been turned off, then moved any significant distance and then turned on again. This is common when you travel by plane somewhere and then turn the unit on in a different state.

Yes, the units need a clear view of the sky. If the unit is mounting somewhere inside the vehicle without a view to the sky it will not receive any satellite signals and will not be able to pinpoint its location.

All units include the 50 US States, including Guam, Puerto Rico the US Virgin Islands and Canada.

- Some models have an “On/Off” switch in the back that says: “Battery”. What is this for?
These models have a feature that completely shuts off power to the unit at all times just to preserve that battery charge that was given to the unit during manufacturing. You should simply slide this switch into the “ON” position once and leave it there at all times. There is no need to ever turn this switch ON or OFF again.
- What is the square module on the top of the unit on the hinge?
This is the GPS antenna. It should be flipped up during use to get the best satellite reception.
- I see a copper screw hole on the antenna, what is that for?
These units also support an “external antenna”. These are supplementary antennas that can be mounted elsewhere in the vehicle for optimum satellite reception. Amcor does not sell these today but they are available from other manufacturers. We can recommend the Delphi Model Number 1200 External GPS Antenna and Cable as one compatible type.

- I entered an address and the device says that the address doesn’t exist. Is the unit defective?
No. Occasionally, the map data contained in the unit may have some minor errors and/or omissions. There is not a problem with the unit, just some mistakes contained in the data base when it was created. The maps are constantly being updated and improved and future map updates that we will have available will usually correct these errors.

If there is debris on the suction cup or if the windshield has dew or moisture on it, this may prevent a proper seal. The suction cup should be free of all debris and the windshield should be dry.
- Why is the device occasionally losing the satellite signal?
Sometimes if you travel in a large city with tall buildings or you are driving under an overpass or in a heavily wooded area, the signal can be temporarily lost. There is nothing wrong with the unit and it will reacquire a signal as soon as conditions improve.
